Vandals

Thursday, 29 September 2022
This WAS one of the most beautiful displays of crystal encrusted straws anywhere! Photograph taken in Calgardup Cave in the South-West of WA in 1903 or before by unknown photographer. Scanned from a postcard kindly loaned by WA collector of postcards, Mike Kouwen. - Vandals
A terrible case of blatant vandalism. This photograph was matched to the area of the postcard in the previous photo of Calgardup Cave!!! AARRRRRRHHHH! What a tragedy. - Vandals
Stalactite specimens of BLUE ARAGONITE which have just been discovered in China ?? (16 Jul 2003) Fantastic and Sad all in one. They were "mined" so they could be sold. What a natural wonder this cave must have been !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Notes from Garry K. Smith - Vandals

The now broken Christmas Tree previously of Dingo Cave in the South-West of WA. This Black and White photo was taken in 1981. Unfortunately 2001 sees it damaged by permitted visitors. It is hoped that repairs can be made to the snapped off tree but it will never be returned to its undamaged state. Photo by Rauleigh Webb. - Vandals

Spray paint and carving vandalism!! Photo was taken in El Mogote, in Guerreo, México by Guillermo. - Vandals
Some of the worst spray paint vandalism in a cave!! Photo was taken in Buckner's Cave in Monroe County, Indiana by Chris Kollmar. Chris indicates that the spray paint obscures a once present "historical" signature and date "L.V. Cushing 1775". Was it this very early signature that prompted more signatures and led to todays disaster? - Vandals
More spray paint vandalism in Buckner's Cave. This time with some cavers for scale!! Photo was taken in Buckner's Cave in Monroe County, Indiana by Chris Kollmar. - Vandals
A severely vandalised Illinois cave entrance Photo was taken in the entrance of the cave by Steve Taylor. Photo is copyright to Steve Taylor. - Vandals
Chris Goodsell contemplating the red paint graffiti splattering the walls in Drovers Cave (WA). This gross vandalism has been removed by scraping off a "layer" of limestone. - Vandals
Graffiti carved into the limestone wall of Drovers Cave (WA). This graffiti has also been removed by scraping off a "layer" of limestone. It is hoped that this second act of vandalism is the lesser of two evils? - Vandals
A wall of vandalism from Signature Cave on the East coast of Australia. What can you say? - Vandals
"The Halo". This wonderful helictite was destroyed in the early 1960's full story available soon. This is the only know photograph of "The Halo" - thanks to Bill Crowle for a scan of the original photo and to Peter Bridge for donating a copy of Bill's photo to the WASG Slide Library. - Vandals
Cluster of cave pearls that used to be at the base of the long stairway in Giants Cave. The day following this photograph the cave pearls were removed from the cave. - Vandals
What used to be some beautiful calcified drip holes in the Ball Room in Giants Cave. Unfortunately they were very close to the main track through the cave and have been crushed to "death" by the passage of more than 35,000 uncontrolled visitors each year! - Vandals
Mullinger's Swamp near Naracoorte, South Australia. Here local residents have "enhanced" a wetland by blocking the runaway hole into the karst watertable. Photograph courtesy of Elery Hamilton-Smith. - Vandals
Malcolm Neilson standing next to the now destroyed Golgotha Cave Shawl. This is the only known photograph of the shawl. Many thanks to Peter Bell for supplying the photograph. - Vandals
